Abstract

Traffic sign detection is crucial for autonomous vehicles (AVs) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Detecting Indian traffic signs is challenging due to diverse designs, environmental conditions, and multilingual content. This paper proposes a method integrating self-attention mech- anisms with You Only Look Once (YOLO) models, such as YOLO11n,YOLO11s, and YOLOv8n. The self-attention modules enhance feature extraction and localization in complex scenarios like occlusions and low-light conditions. Preprocessing techniques, including segmentation and data augmentation, play a significant role in improving model performance. This research contributes to the advancement of traffic sign detection in real-world scenarios and provides a foundation for future innovations, such as transformer-based architectures.
