Abstract

Inertial effects in straight and curved microfluidic channels have great potential for separation of particles of different sizes. the geometry of the channels influences the separation. In this work we consider a serpentine channel with rectangular cross section of different sizes to explore the influence of aspect ratio on focusing performance and particle separation possibilities. Particle trajectories of different sizes are studied by means of a computational simulations. We show that low-aspect ratio offers more possibilities for separation in terms of particle sizes as well as in terms of higher throughput.
