Abstract

The authors analyzed the actions of the governments of the three European Mediterranean states (Italy, Spain, France) to support business and citizens during the pandemic and identified the reasons for the worsening of the situation, despite the efforts being made. The study is based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as regulatory documents of the EU, the governments of Italy, Spain, France. Statistical data on economic losses in industry and trade, as well as on the employment of the population is provided. The SWOT analysis carried out by the authors showed that, despite external and internal threats and negative impacts on the economy as a whole and on individual industries, in particular, nation states, have the potential for a worthy way out of this situation.
