Abstract

Verbatim records of sittings of the Estonian Parliament are studied in this paper. The general structure of the discussions is presented. Arguments used in negotiation are considered as consisting of premises and claims. The relations between the arguments (attack, rebuttal, support) are determined with the aim to create a corpus where arguments are annotated. Our further aim is the automatic recognition of arguments and their relations in Estonian political texts. To our knowledge, this is the first attempt towards modelling Estonian political argumentation.
