Abstract

Social media is an online media that enables its users to easily participate, share and create the content. The most common forms of social media are blog, social network, and wikis. There are more than 140 million Indonesians use internet, and they are so familiar with social media through smartphone or computer. This study aims to examine types of social media students use, how the frequency of social media usage, and the purpose of using social media. This research is an explorative descriptive study which is conducted on high school students in Semarang. The results showed that the types of social media used by students are line, whatsapp, and instagram.
