Abstract

Bangkalan was East Java's highest district of wasting children and the top 8 stunting contributors in 2013. There was a lack of providing child growth and development knowledge, instrumental and emotional fulfillment need and friendship as social support for the mother as the caregiver in society. This study aims to analyze four forms of social support for 3 to 6-year-olds' caregivers. This qualitative study was conducted in April 2015. Data were collected by observation, interviews and FGD. The informants consisted of the head of Primary Health Care, subdistrict nutritionist, coordinator of midwives, village midwives, 2 cadres, 50 mothers with 3- to 6-year-old children. The sampling method was purposive sampling. Data was validated using the triangulation method. The four forms of social support are taken from family especially for taneyan lanjhang housing in Madura and health providers, as well as friends. Social support has a positive impact for caregivers to provide optimal 3- to 6-year-old child growth and development nurturing. Community support, cadres, and health workers and also the government are needed to provide positive social support for the caregivers of 3- to 6-year-old children.
