Abstract

Patients with low levels of health literacy face more challenges in accessing and using health care systems, especially in the prevention and treatment of CHD. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age, sex, language, attitude, perception, family support and access of health information with health literacy of CHD patients. The health literacy of CHD means a patient’s way to make his healthy lifestyle changes and the patient's ability to prevent the recurrence of risk factors of CHD. The research was a quantitative research with cross-sectional approach with sample of 65 patients. The sampling technique in this research was Non-Random Sampling, the data processing was univariat, the data analysed was bivariate with Chi-square test. The results showed that 36.9% of patients had low levels of health literacy. The result of statistical test of α=5% was obtained from the relationship among knowledge, attitude, perception, access to health information, and health literacy. Knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and access to health information were related to the health literacy of CHD patients. Considering the importance of the access of health information to the health literacy level of patients, it is suggested to optimize the health information resources in hospitals to make patients easier to obtain health information.
