Abstract

Abstract: There are many processes inside the body, all influenced by many factors. Irregular circadian rhythmicity is correlated with physical and mental disorders. Therefore, improved circadian rhythmicity is required to increase performance. The purpose of this research was to find out the correlation between the circadian rhythms and activity levels of medical students. Activity level refers to the duration of activity in a day, while circadian rhythm means the duration of sleep in a day. This study was an analytic observational study. The population consisted of medical students (class of 2014) at the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, who completed a questionnaire. There were no significant correlations between studying and sleeping on weekdays (p = 0.52), watching TV and sleeping on weekdays (p = 0.138), hanging out and sleeping on weekdays (p = 0.454), exercising and sleeping on weekdays (p = 0.611), studying and sleeping at the weekend (p = 0.559), watching TV and sleeping at the weekend (p = 0.409), hanging out and sleeping at the weekend (p = 0.242), exercising and sleeping at the weekend (p = 0.139), studying and sleeping both on weekdays and at the weekend (p = 0.739), watching TV and sleeping both on weekdays and at the weekend (p = 0.205), hanging out and sleeping both on weekdays and at the weekend (p = 0.307), and exercising and sleeping both on weekdays and at the weekend (p = 0.635).
