Abstract

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is one of the most common in sport injury. This can lead to knee joint instability and functional impairment. Reconstruction is proven to restore the mechanical stability of ACL, but restoration of sensory and motor function is controversial because many ACL mechanisms can not return completely resulting reinjury risk. The role of rehabilitation required as well as evaluation of clinical outcomes primarily related to the return to sport and decrease risk of reinjury. The objectives of this study were to evaluate postural balance differences in fifteen athletes, 6-24 months post anterior cruciate ligaments reconstruction and fifteen healthy athletes as controls, aged 17-39 years, who came to the outpatient of Rehabilitation Center dr.Soetomo hospital using Huber System 360 as balance device with parameters center of pressure/COP (length, area, speed) and Stability Quotient. The results showed significant differences of both center of pressure (length p=0,009; area p=0,000; speed p=0,009) and stability quotient (p=0,01) during double leg stance in close eyes. In conclussion subjects of ACRL group were not able to perform optimally balanced adaptation allegedly due to the decrease in the quantity and quality of the mechanoreceptors in the knee after LKA injury especially during the activity without visual cue.
