Abstract

While corruption is widely reported in the media, there are few empirical studies on the theory of values in corruption in Indonesia. This study attempts to address this gap by identifying senior high school students’ understanding of corruption and the values of Pancasila. The awareness of anti-corruption among students is arguably caused by a lack of understanding of Pancasila values from an early age and over the years of media reports on corrupt public figures. Teenage students have largely failed to identify the seeds of corruption in their everyday lives. This research uses a mixed method of questionnaire-based survey of 120 senior high school students in Tangerang, followed by Focus Group Discussion with 10 students representing five different research-location schools. The authors employ a social learning approach from Albert Bandura to get a deeper understanding on corruption, and phenomenology of values from Max Scheler to portray the signification of Pancasila values-based anti-corruption behavior.
