Abstract: Severe peripheral nerve injury is one of the major disabling conditions and its rehabilitation remains a challenge. Here we report a case of sciatic nerve injury treated with stem-cell augmented nerve repair combined with post surgery rehabilitation. The patient previously suffered from flail foot after a sharp injury on her right posterior thigh severed her sciatic nerve. Emergency nerve repair surgery failed to produce the desired outcome. The patient then underwent second nerve repair surgery with mesenchymal stem cell augmentation followed by post surgery rehabilitation. ICF was used to assess functional status, set treatment goals, and determine an appropriate rehabilitation program. The program consisted of electrical stimulation, ultrasound diathermy, and therapeutic exercise. The SF 36-item health survey was used to monitor the quality of life before and after rehabilitation. After 6 months, significant improvement in the clinical condition and quality of life was achieved.
