Abstract: This research analyzes the content of comments in Detik.com on the Ahok-Djarot news campaign during the Governor Election in Jakarta 2017. The analysis focuses on deliberative democracy, which is defined as a form of public participation by talking, debating, and discussing with other communities to identify a problem, clarify, negotiate and develop an understanding of matters of public concern. Deliberative democracy provides alternative solutions for people who need a public sphere to express their aspirations so as to influence government policies. This phenomenon allows online media to provide relevant feature such as comment box as a public sphere to share people’s aspirations. This feature underlines the significance of Detik.com in providing an online medium to enhance the people’s participation in deliberative democracy
