                Abstract:
Nowadays, photos associated with spatiotemporal references are available widely on computers as well as on the Internet. There exist several tools for the exploration of photos with regard to their geographical and/or temporal structures. However, communicating spatial and temporal contents of photos remains a challenging task. In this paper, we follow Peuquet’s triad framework in visually combining space, time, and descriptive contents of photos to deal with that task. We address the visual exploration of spatiotemporal photos to be communicated by an integrated design of different abstraction levels in space, time, and content displaying. The tool PhotoTima is introduced for the exploration of Flickr photos in connection with their timestamps, geo-coordinates, and user-generated tags.
