Abstract:
Spondylitis (Spinal) Tuberculosis is one of the oldest diseases known to mankind, an extra-pulmonary form of tuberculosis, characterized by intervertebral space destruction and collapse of vertebral bodies, leading to severe and progressive kyphosis. It is rare to have multiple spinal lesions of spondylitis tuberculosis with skip lesions. A 24-year-old male had had a slouch posture for the past 5 years and complained of back pain (VAS 4-8) for5 months, having worsenedoverthe last 3 months which caused the patient to be unable to walk. Now the patient can only sit with support, and experiences difficulty in daily activities. The patient had a cervicothoracolumbar kyphosis posture, wasting, general weakness and decrease of respiratory capacity. Imaging examination revealed multiple vertebral body destruction on C7-T1, T11, L3, S2-3. Rehabilitation programs consist of upright position, icing, breathing and chest expansion exercise, flexibility exercise, and cervicothoracolumbosacral ort
hosis, and also psychological support and education. Rehabilitation goals are to decrease pain, improve pre-operation condition to prevent post-operation complications, promote independent ADL and ambulation. Rehabilitation management in conjunction with chemotherapy and surgical intervention, aims to help patients function optimally. Understanding the disease, the goal of rehabilitation and encouraged compliance withrehabilitation programs isimportant.
