Abstract: Previous research has shown that children are unaware of sexual abuse. The aim of this study is to identify the role of parents, teachers and media to increase awareness of sexual abuse prevention for school children in Banyuwangi. This study was a qualitative descriptive research and was performed from October to November, 2016. The study involved 19 elementary school students in grades 4 and 5 of SDN Model and SD Muhammadiyah 1, as well as 23 parents and teachers that were chosen purposively. The data was collected by in-depth interviews with students and a focus group discussion (FGD) with parents and teachers. The collected data was then analyzed thematically and validated using a peer debriefing technique. The source of information regarding sexual inappropriate acts was mainly given by parents and teachers. The media accessed frequently by children were watching videos, reading comics and listening to music. The children have access to information regarding social abuse, but th e depth of this information is lacking. Roles of parents and teacher become very important especially as they are the source of information regarding preventive actions of sexual abuse in children. Social media need to be considered for promoting awareness to prevent sexual abuse (More)
