Abstract: Nowadays, digital technologies are a main driver of strengthening and increasing the society welfare and achieving sustainable development goals. We are presenting our own vision of ways, areas and reasons why digital technologies have already changed the financial and economic society system and outline the prospects for further change. Challenges of sustainable development and directions of their solution with the help of digital technologies are determined. In particular, the greatest attention is paid to the application of Big Data and blockchain technologies for the financial and economic system modernization. The development of the IT industry in Ukraine in recent years is analyzed and a conclusion is made about the positive prospects for the future. The directions of using Big Data technology to solve problems that hinder the sustainable development of society are suggested. The likelihood of applying digital technologies to solve environmental problems is assessed. The prospe cts for cryptocurrencies and other virtual assets impact on the financial and economic system are identified. The possibilities of blockchain technology application for the formation of local payment systems within local communities or large corporations in order to obtain cash flows optimization and seigniorage from the issuance of cryptocurrencies are illustrated.
