Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of ICTRS 2012 - the First International Conference on Telecommunications and Remote Sensing, held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on August 29 - 30, 2012. The proceedings consist of 22 high-quality research and experience papers that have not been published previously. The conference was organized and sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Institute for Collaboration and Research on Enterprise Systems and Technology (IICREST), in cooperation with Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Technical University of Sofia, and technically co-sponsored by the Defence Institute of Bulgarian Ministry of Defence. ICTRS is performed under the auspices of the International Union of Radio Sciences (URSI) and is covering topics of several URSI commissions, namely C, F, G, and SSPS (Space Solar Power Systems). With influences from all these URSI commissions, the scientific program of the conference is concerned with the international development and application of a broad range of aspects: (i) Radio-Communication (RC) Systems and Signal Processing; (ii) Wave Propagation and Remote Sensing; (iii) Context Awareness; (iv) Solar Power Satellite Systems. It is not only that ICTRS adopts the URSI research agenda but it also has the ambition to spread its influence to a broader audience including all those researchers and practitioners who are interested in the topics of the conference. Their participation is additionally strengthening the URSI-related research and the RC research developments in general. All this has inspired the organizers to launch this event, contributing to the dissemination of radio science -related knowledge. Considering two types of papers, namely Invited Papers and Regular Papers, and following the ICTRS'12 Call for Papers and received submissions, ICTRS 2012 has selected 22 papers for oral presentation during the conference and for publication in these proceedings. Reflecting actual findings in the areas of ICTRS, these papers present original contribution in the following boradly defined topics: Intelligent Methods of RC Systems and Signal Processing; Wave Propagation and Remote Sensing; Context Awareness; Solar Power Satellite Systems. The high quality of the ICTRS 2012 program is enhanced by four keynote lectures, delivered by distinguished guests who are renowned experts in their fields, including (alphabetically): Andon Lazarov (Burgas Free University, Bulgaria), Takashi Ohira (Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan), Jacques Palicot (SUPELEC / Institut d' Electronique et de Télécommunications de Rennes, France), Naoki Shinohara (Kyoto University, Japan). Further, open discussions would be organized, targetting community building and project acquisition initiatives. These high points in the conference program would contribute to positioning ICTRS as a high quality event. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated efforts of many people. Firstly, we must thank the authors whose research and development achievements are recorded here. Secondly, the program committee members deserve credit for their reviewing and promotion efforts. Further, we appreciate the willingness of SciTePress to publish the current proceedings. We would also like to especially compliment the excellent organization provided by the IICREST team; it did all necessary preparations for a stimulating and productive event. Tsanka Petrova deserves credit as well for her excellent local support and editing efforts. Last but not least, we thank the keynote lecturers for their invaluable contribution and for taking the time to synthesize and deliver their talks. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an enjoyable stay in the beautiful city of Sofia. We look forward to seeing you next year in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, for the Second International Conference on Telecommunications and Remote Sensing (ICTRS 2013), details of which will be made available at http://www.ictrs.org (More)
