Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Internet of Things, Big Data and Security (IoTBDS 2021), which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with DNS.PT. This year IoTBDS was, exceptionally, held as a web-based event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from 23 – 25 April, 2021. We hope that these proceedings, which include areas like “Big Data Research”, “Emerging Services and Analytics”, “Internet of Things (IoT) Fundamentals”, “Internet of Things (IoT) Applications”. “Big Data for Multi-discipline Services”, “Security, Privacy and Trust” and “IoT Technologies”, are interesting to a global audience of engineers, scientists and business people interested in the research topics of IoTBDS. We believe the published proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions and highlight challenging technical problems in each field. IoTBDS received 62 paper submissions from 25 countries. In order to evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in IoTBDS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, 11 papers were selected as full papers. The conference was complemented with a special session entitled “Artificial Intelligence for Emerging IoT Systems: Open Challenges and Novel Perspectives - AI4EIoTs” (chaired by Fiammetta Marulli and Lelio Campanile). The conference also featured 4 keynote lectures delivered by internationally known experts, namely Ajith Abraham (Machine Intelligence Research Labs - MIR Labs, United States), Yaochu Jin (University of Surrey, United Kingdom), Ling Liu (Georgia Institute of Technology, United States) and Witold Pedrycz (University of Alberta, Canada). These talks contribute to increase the overall quality of the conference and to provide a deeper understanding of the conference interest fields. The number and high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices in the reviewing process. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewers. Based on those reviews, papers that adequately balanced quality, originality and relevance to the conference themes were selected. The proceedings of IoTBDS will be submitted for indexation by SCOPUS, Google Scholar, The DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Semantic Scholar, Engineering Index (EI) and Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index. A shortlist of papers presented at the conference will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of one of the following publications: International Journal of Organizational and Collective Intelligence, Journal of Global Information Management, Computers & Electrical Engineering Journal, Springer's Journal of Grid Computing and Journal of Enterprise Information Systems All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS digital library. To recognize the best submissions, awards based on the best-combined marks of paper reviews, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as evaluated by the chairs during the conference, were conferred at the closing session of the conference. As a final point, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication made it possible to put together a program that we believe is very exciting and of high technical quality. Next, we would like to thank all the program committee members and auxiliary reviewers who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for offering their invaluable contribution and their vision in their talks. Finally, we acknowledge the professional support of the IoTBDS 2021 team for all organizational processes, especially given the need to introduce online streaming, forum management, direct messaging facilitation and other web-based activities to make it possible for IoTBDS 2021 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues in spite of the logistic difficulties caused by the current pandemic situation. We wish you all an inspiring conference and we hope to meet you again next year for IoTBDS 2022, details of which will soon be available at http://www.iotbds.org/ (More)
