Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Robotics, Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems (ROBOVIS 2020), which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence. This year ROBOVIS was, exceptionally, held as a web-based event, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from 4 – 6 November. The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners that are interested to share their research and experience on the thematic areas of this conference. Robotics is a field that is closely connected to Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems. Research and development of robots require technologies originating from the other two areas; the research work in Computer Vision has often been driven by needs in Robotics; Intelligent Systems models and software have often been developed aiming at applications in the areas of physical agents, i.e. robots, or in areas related to scene understanding, video and image processing, and many other aspects of computer vision. ROBOVIS is a venue where these three research communities, often isolated, meet and discuss innovation possibilities driven by the intersection of these highly synergetic fields. ROBOVIS 2020 received 20 paper submissions from 16 countries, of which 20% were accepted as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified independent researchers in the ROBOVIS topic areas. The high quality of the ROBOVIS 2020 programme was enhanced by four keynote lectures, delivered by experts in their fields, including: Krzysztof Kozlowski (Poznan University of Technology, Poland), Csaba Benedek (SZTAKI, Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungary), Erdal Kayacan (Aarhus University, Denmark), Krzysztof Kozlowski (Poznan University of Technology, Poland) and Sanaz Mostaghim (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Germany). All presented papers will be submitted for Scopus, Google Scholar, DBLP, Semantic Scholar, Microsoft Academic, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index) and Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI/ISI) and, as well as being made available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Besides the proceedings edited by SCITEPRESS, a post-conference book will be compiled with extended versions of the conference´s best papers and published by Springer in a CCIS Series book. Also, a short list of best papers will be invited for a post-conference special issue of the Springer Nature Computer Science journal. The best contributions to the conference were distinguished with awards based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as assessed by session chairs at the conference venue. Building an interesting and successful program for the conference required the dedicated effort of many people. Firstly, we greatly thank the authors, whose research and development efforts are recorded here. Secondly, we thank the members of the program committee and additional reviewers for their diligence and expert reviewing. Finally, we acknowledge the professional support of the ROBOVIS 2020 team for all organizational processes, especially given the need to introduce online streaming, forum management, direct messaging facilitation and other web-based activities in order to make it possible for ROBOVIS 2020 authors to present their work and share ideas with colleagues in spite of the logistic difficulties caused by the current pandemic situation. We hope that all colleagues who participated in the conference and/or read its proceedings, find this a fruitful and inspiring conference. We hope to contribute to the development of the Robotics, Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems community and look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ROBOVIS, details of which are available at http://www.robovis.org/.
