Foreword: This book contains the Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Evaluation of Novel Approaches to Software Engineering (ENASE 2022). This conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems (ACM SIGMIS). This year’s ENASE is a Web-based event, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taking place from April 25−26. The mission of ENASE is to be a prime international forum to discuss and publish research findings and IT industry experiences with relation to the evaluation of novel approaches to software engineering. The conference acknowledges necessary changes in systems and software thinking due to contemporary shifts of the computing paradigm to e-services, cloud computing, mobile connectivity, business processes, and societal participation. By comparing novel approaches with established traditional practices and by evaluating them against systems and software quality criteria, ENASE conferences advance knowledge and research in software engineering, including and emphasizing service-oriented, business-process driven, and ubiquitous mobile computing. ENASE aims at identifying the most promising trends and proposing new directions for consideration by researchers and practitioners involved in large-scale systems and software development, integration, deployment, delivery, maintenance and evolution. ENASE 2022 received 109 paper submissions, from 34 countries, 18% of which were accepted as full papers. This acceptance rate shows the intention to preserve the quality of this and the next editions of this conference. Revised and extended versions of selected papers presented at the conference will be included in the ENASE 2022 Selected Papers book, published by Springer in the CCIS Series. The conference program includes three keynote speeches delivered by internationally distinguished speakers: Davor Svetinovic (Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria), Brian Fitzgerald (University of Limerick, Ireland) and Birgit Penzenstadler (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden). To recognize the best submissions and the best student contributions, awards are conferred at the closing session of the conference. The selection is based on the combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the presentation quality, as assessed by the Chairs in the course of the conference. We would like to express our thanks to all participants, first of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. Next, we thank all the members of the Program Committee and the auxiliary reviewers for their diligence and expert reviewing. We cordially thank the invited speakers for their excellent contributions in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, we acknowledge the professional support of the INSTICC team for the smooth running of the organizational processes that made it possible for ENASE 2022 authors to present their work and to share ideas with colleagues despite the logistic difficulties caused by the current pandemic situation. We wish you all an inspiring conference, and we look forward to having additional research results presented at the next edition of ENASE, details of which are available at https://enase.scitevents.org/.
