Foreword: During the last few years, new devices have been invading the pacific waters of educational environments. Different kind of tablets, laptops, whiteboards, mobile devices and other exciting computer systems have been introduced in classrooms together with the recurrent claim for which they help to improve the learning process in. This workshop collects a set of high-quality contributions on concepts, applications, techniques or environments where interaction design play a central role by improving the learning process at all levels. The Workshop is divided into three sections: a porter session and two full-paper sessions. Next paragraphs summarize each contribution. Three contributions complete the poster session. Muhammad Shuaib Qureshi et. al., in their paper “RFID Based Devices for Educative Environments” discuss a theoretical model based on RFID devices to monitor the work done by the students. The main objective is that the students improve their learning capabilities. The contribution “Collaboration within Moodle: sharing documents in real-time with Drag&Share”, by Félix Albertos Marco et. al., presents a component added to Moodle to allow sharing of pictures and simultaneous chat. The last poster contribution is “CSchool Interactive Design”, by Habib M. Fardoun et. al., deals with Interactive Design of learning environments. The approach suggests the combination of different new technologies such as Cloud Computing, Web Services and Distributed User Interfaces for realizing such design support. A supporting system implementation called CSchool is presented. Session 1 offers five papers. The paper “Using Tablet PCs for the design of web educational environments”, by Guillermo Palacios, et. al., presents the well-known Problem Based Learning (PBL) methodology applied to the subject Human Computer Interaction (HCI), which makes the proposal interesting as a current topic regarding education in Europe, especially after Bologna. Habib M. Fardoun et. al., deals with “A Framework to Develop Web Applications Based on RFID Panels” in the second paper. The goal of this work is the definition of a framework that implements common functionality to support the development of Web application based on RFID panels. These panels are based on the Web 2.0 technology that is the foundation of the social software concept. Detailed information of the application design and developed framework are presented. In the third paper “Coaching for Teachers: Applying Professional Solutions within the Educational Environments” by Habib M. Fardoun et. al., presents educative system, a solution to help teachers of secondary school to face with different kind of problems or challenges in their daily work. Miguel Ángel Conde González et. al., present “How to define and apply Mobile Personal Learning Environments”, an approach for creating 'mobile' learning environments for the personal users, focusing on mobile devices as a medium. The web service-based approach is interesting, and the adherence to W3C recommendations for widgets is commendable. In the fifth paper “A Proposal of an architecture for Educational Environments”, the authors Juan Enrique Garrido, et. al., describe a new architecture for educational environments, they focus on the ubiquity, context-awareness and collaboration features to avoid the educational system to perform his tasks with errors. The second session of the Workshop contains 6 papers as follow. In the first paper, of this session, “The Smart Grader: An Intelligent Grading System for e-Learning Environments”, in which the author Shehab Gamalel-Din, introduce the new concept of Intelligent Grading Systems (IGS), and presents a generic framework, and implemented a simple proof of concept prototype called Smart Grader (SG). The authors Habib M. Fardoun et. al., of the second paper “Educative Resource Patterns Presentation in a Model-Based Instructional E-Learning System Design Environment”, present an important problem detected in settings at educative department of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The authors position their work nicely in the field of detecting patterns that appear again and again in their instructional systems as part of a continuous research works. In the third paper “Screening Program for Learning Difficulties in Arabic Speaking Students: Design Considerations for Educational Interfaces”, the authors Areej Al-Wabil et. al., describes the creation process of a screening program for children with learning difficulties. The motivation, interest and projection of this research is promising taking into account that “there do not exists any computer-based screening software normalized for Arabic-speaking children” and “remedial and screening programs for children with LD's is scarce in number”. The authors Amandeep Dhir et. al., of the fourth paper “Examining the Educational User Interface, Technology and Pedagogy for Arabic Speaking Children in Kuwait”, presents the emergence of educational technology by performing a review of existing work in this domain and showing their the ongoing work on developing appropriate educational user interfaces and technologies for Arabic speaking students in Kuwait. Although this work contains a lot of information related with the discussed issue, it is not focussed in the underlying subject, Pedagogy for Arabic Speaking Children in Kuwait. In the fifth paper “Stimulating Capabilities: A Proposal for Learning and Stimulation in Children with ADHD”, the authors Elena de la Gíua et. al., present StiCap (Stimulating Capabilities), a software system based on games to improve the memory and language abilities in children with Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity, has been described. The authors Diogo Azevedo et. al., of the last paper “An integrative approach to diagram-based collaborative brainstorming: a case study”, details a collaborative l-s symbol diagramming component that the authors introduce as a support tool for collaborative processes. The advantages of the system are that it supports multiple processes through the integration of various tools. The third session of the Workshop promotes the discussion by organizing the participants in working groups that discuss different emerging topics related to this field. (More)
