Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Physiological Computing Systems (PhyCS 2018) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), co-organized by Universidad de Sevilla and held in cooperation with the ACM SIGCHI - Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction, BITalino, HFES – Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, FENS – Federation of European Neuroscience Societies, SBBf - Sociedade Brasileira de Biofísica and the Physiological Society. These published proceedings demonstrate new and innovative solutions, highlighting technical problems in each field that are challenging for future research. PhyCS was organized to provide a forum for researchers, developers, manufacturers and end-users working in the field of physiological computing and to establish guidelines in the development of advanced solutions. In this edition of PhyCS, 5 papers were selected for publication as full papers and 6 papers were accepted for short presentation. We hope that these Conference Proceedings, submitted for indexation by the Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), DBLP, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index), Scopus and Semantic Scholar., may help the Physiological Computing community to find interesting research work. Moreover, we are proud to have included four plenary keynote lectures in our program, provided by internationally distinguished researchers, namely Eduardo Rocon (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Spain), Lucas Noldus (Noldus Information Technology bv, Netherlands), Georgios N. Yannakakis (University of Malta, Malta) and Norbert Streitz (Founder and Scientific Director, Smart Future Initiative, Germany), thus contributing to increase the overall quality of the conference and to provide a deeper understanding of the conference interest fields. In order to promote the excellence of young researcher and to encourage them in their future contributions, the "Best Student Paper Award" will be conferred to the author(s) of a full paper presented at the conference, selected by the Program/Conference Chairs based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, assessed by the Program Committee, and paper presentation quality, assessed by session chairs at the conference venue. Based on reviewers’ evaluations and on the presentation quality, a short list of authors will be invited to submit extended revised versions of their papers for a book to be published by Springer containing the best PhyCS 2018 papers. All presented papers will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), DBLP, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index), Scopus and Semantic Scholar as well as being made available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. Finally, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication make possible to put together an exciting program of high technical quality. We would also like to thank all the members of the program committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for sharing their vision in their talks. We are especially grateful to the INSTICC Steering Committee whose invaluable work made this event possible. We wish you all an exciting conference and an unforgettable stay in Seville, Spain. We hope to meet you again for the next edition of PhyCS, details of which will be shortly available at http://www.phycs.org. (More)
