Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems (ICORES 2016). This conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) in cooperation with the Association Française pur la Programmation par Contraintes (AFPC), the Gesellschaft für Operations Research e.V. (GOR) and the Operational Research Society in England (The OR Society). The technical so-sponsor for ICORES is the Portuguese Association of Operational Research (Apdio). The purpose of the International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in advances and applications in the field of operations research. Two simultaneous tracks will be held, one on domain independent methodologies and technologies, and the second on practical work developed in specific application areas. This year ICORES has received 75 paper submissions from 31 countries, which demonstrates the global dimension of this conference. From these, 19 papers have been published as full papers and 18 have been accepted for short presentation. These numbers, leading to a “full-paper” acceptance ratio of about 25% and an oral paper acceptance ratio close to 49%, show the intention of preserving a high quality forum for the next editions of this conference. To recognize the best overall and student contributions, awards based on both the best reviews, as assessed by the Program Committee, and presentation quality, as assessed by session chairs at the conference venue, will be conferred during the closing session of the conference. This year a new Best Practical Paper Award, sponsored by Banxia Software, will also be conferred. Based on reviewer evaluations and presentation quality, a short list of authors will be invited to submit extended revised versions of their papers for a book containing the best ICORES 2016 papers to be published by Springer. The conference program includes a panel and three invited talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers, namely: Sue Merchant, (Blue Link Consulting, United Kingdom), Alexandre Dolgui, (École des Mines de Nantes, France) and Karla Hoffman, (George Mason University, United States). The ICORES program also includes a Doctoral Consortium on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems that brought together Ph.D. students within the operations research field to discuss their research in an international forum. We would like to thank the Doctoral Consortium Chair, Alexandre Dolgui, (École des Mines de Nantes, France) and the Local Chair, Paolo Dell’Olmo, (Sapienza University of Rome, Italy) for their value-added collaboration to ICORES. We express our thanks to all participants. First to all the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We also deeply thank the invited speakers for excellent contributions in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, special thanks to all the members of the INSTICC team whose collaboration and coordination were fundamental to the success of this conference. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in Rome, Italy. We hope to meet you again next year for the 6th edition of ICORES, details of which will soon be available at http://www.icores.org. (More)
