Abstract

Some previous research showed that nurses in a Bandung hospital experienced stress in the workplace, knowing that, had it been overlooked, it would water down the level of productivity and trigger changes in their cognitive and emotional condition as well as in physiological status. The aim of this research was to identify job stressors for nurses based on their characteristics. This research was a quantitative-descriptive research. The respondents in this research were 239 nurses chosen using the population total technique. Univariate analysis is used to see descriptions of job stressor in nurses based on their characteristics. Based on the data analysis of 4 job stressors, including types of personality, workload, responsibility, and social support, the research obtained that the highest job stressor for nurses in a Bandung hospital was the low level of social support, as felt by 154 people (64.4%). It is advised that the hospital management system should hold stress-management trainings, periodic religious activities, counseling; and remain transparent and clear in defining roles and responsibilities of each employee. The service division system must also be relevant to the workload, work risks, career span, credit, achievements, self-development opportunities; and carry out a scheduled and continuous rotation system.
