Abstract

High rate algae pond (HRAP) is one of the wastewater treatment that utilizes the principle of natural ecosystem so that it is environmentally friendly. The aims of this study were: 1) to study the effectiveness of adding KH2PO4 and addition of source C in decreasing BOD and COD levels and 2) to assess pond water quality after bioremediation test. Research was begun with a constant concentration of chlorophyll of algae that was 3.5 ± 0.5 mg/L. Range Finding Test (RFT) was performed with a range of water pond volume ratios with algae used. Test of bioremediation of boezem water was done by variation of concentration of addition of element K and source C. A total of 12 reactors were performed in duplo performance during the 18-day research. Parameters measured were temperature, pH, BOD, and COD values. The results showed that the efficiency of BOD and COD decrease was highest in the addition of 3% KH2PO4 salt and source C (R3). The efficiency of decreasing BOD and COD levels was 52.09% and 50.94%, respectively. The final BOD and COD concentrations in the R3 reactors were 25.20 mg/L and 60.00 mg/L, respectively.
