Abstract

Abstract: We reported that intermitten fasting/IF prevent muscle lose on losing weighted mouse obesity model. Calorie restriction can losing weight, decrease fat mass, and lower IGF-1 concentration. This study was aimed to investigate wheter IF can increase IGF-1 level in the prevention of muscle loss and increase fat loss. This research is experimental study. Twenty one of rats male had been given higher fat diet to make obese rats for 4 weeks. All these rats with index Lee > 0.30 divided to three different groups and gave standard food. First group is control group which is diet ad libitum, second and third group will get diet IF and low calorie diet for 2 weeks. Concentration of IGF-1 pre and post will be tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay/ ELISA. Fat mass taken from adipose tissue in visceral abdomen and lean mass taken from gastrocnemius muscle, soleus, and tibialis anterior of extremity of posterior. : The result was no increasing of concentration IGF-1 after IF than LCD (776.09±223.120 pg/mL vs 633.43±322.688 pg/mL, p = 0,368). There was larger fat mass in IF than low calorie diet (4.42±1.272gr vs. 2.83±0.408 gr, p=0.022). There was larger lean mass in IF than low calorie diet (6.14±0.899 gr vs. 4.33±0.516 gr, p= 0.005). IF can decrease fat mass and prevent muscle lose with the same level of IGF-1 concentration in low calorie diet.
