Abstract

The rapid advancement on communication technology positions the social media platforms as major media of sharing and gathering information. Nowadays, Instagram become a popular social media mostly used in information seeking and sharing activity, one of which is on culinary related information.Related to the infomation on culinary, Based on the survey of Indonesian ministry of tourism, Solo is considered as one of the most favourite culinary tourism destination in Indonesia. In this city, culinary lovers, especially for those who have recently lived in Solo tend to use social media Instagram as a reference in finding culinary information. The phenomenon ofinstagram popularity as a source of culinary information in Solo is an interesting thing as it needs to be realized that the information received from Instagram is not always accurate, sometimes it does not match the reality found in the field. In connection with this phenomenon, this article aims to explore how culinary lovers process culinary information in Instagram based on Heuristic and Systematic Modeltheory in the light of qualitative approach with case study research type.The study was administered during September 2017. The results shows that culinary lovers (informants) tend to respond the information shared on Instagram heuristically when the information providers post interesting photos, have high number of followers and likes,. Meanwhile, when the information provider/s have the opposite condition the information will be processed in systematic way. In addition, the results also indicate that the two features of instagram (like and number of follower) have been the benchmark of credibiity of an account in provifding information.
