Abstract

This study described the effectiveness of portfolio assessment in developing students’ scientific attitude and science learning achievement in science teaching. Sixty eight SMP students were involved in this research. The data collected in this study were scientific attitude measured by questionnaire and science learning achievement measured by an objective test. The data about the students’ scientific attitude and science learning achievement were analysed using descriptive and MANOVA was used to verify the hypothesis. The results of this study showed that portfolio assessment (authentic assessment) was more effective than the test (conventional assessment) in developing students’ scientific attitude and science learning achievement.
