Abstract

Background:Thyroid disease is more common among females and increasing in incidence. Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland release too much of its hormones over a short (acute) or long (chronic) period of time. Purpose: To evaluate the case of hyperthyroid patient with candidiasis post odontectomy. Case: A case is presented in a patient with controlled hyperthyroid 40-years-old-female which carried out odontectomy surgery in the lower left third molar with local anesthetic. Case management: She was hospitalized for 3 days, two days after surgery and treated by internist and oral surgeon. Candida tropicalis was found from fungal culture on the gingival mucosa 38. Conclusion: The dentist should have a detailed knowledge of the clinical and oral manifestations of thyrotoxicosis because thyroid diseases include a group of conditions that can affect the delivery of dental care, especially those associated with candidiasis.
