Abstract

What other uses are there for animal tracking? We argue that the location data can be made more useful by analyzing it to determine the future position of animals and optimize farming. Other sensors such as temperature and RFID could be added to increase benefit for both farmers and scientists. Adding more sensors is not trivial and major challenges include energy consumption, cost, size and establishing a market. However these obstacles can be dealt with and the possibility of having mobile sensor platforms available to the public is intriguing.
