Abstract

The paper discusses principles of open education as the main method of effective education style for talented students. It is shown how open-source software development projects can naturally implement these principles for teaching software engineering courses. This is proved by examples of successful open education environments created at the System Programming sub-faculties of the two Russian top-ranked universities - Moscow State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Phystech). These sub-faculties are run jointly with the Institute for System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the leading Russian research & development government organization in the field of software engineering.
