Abstract

Unwanted pregnancy is a condition that can’t be accepted in social, culture, and religion in Indonesia. Self-disclosure of adolescents about their pregnancy is an important phase that impacts on their health status. The unwanted pregnancies of adolescents under 17 years old had reached 43.8% in Pati Regency in 2016. This was a qualitative research. Data were collected by in-depth interviews to adolescents and one focus group discussion was conducted to society for triangulation. All of informants disclosed their pregnancy for first time to their partner, only two of them did it to their parents, and other informants tried to abort their pregnancy. Informants felt difficult to self-disclose because they thought as sinful people. Society thought that those adolescents were as sinful people and did not care about condition of adolescents because it was a family private matter. Self disclosure is the most difficult phase for adolescents with unwanted pregnancy. Before doing self-disclosure, informants had felt depressed, guilty, and tried to terminate their pregnancy with unsafe abortion. It is implied that communication between adolescents and parents especially about unwanted pregnancy is important to adolescents to solve their problem.
