Abstract

Maternal and child health has been one of main concerns in most countries because it determines health quality for a nation. The report of maternal and infant mortality rates in some countries might describe how poor the quality of life of the nation is. This is despite the advancements made, enabling maternal and child deaths to be significantly decreased since the inception of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 1990. A huge amount of accelerated efforts had even been done before 2015. However, almost all countries, including Indonesia, have their own challenges to set new targets and goals by fostering the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. One of the most essential solutions to reduce maternal and child death is interprofessional collaboration (IpC). When different professions create a good collaboration, share goals and integrate professional competencies, they will effectively deliver positive results for maternal and child health. Many studies, including the 2014 Lancet Midwifery series, argue that interprofessional collaboration is essential to provide quality health care in today’s complex world, and to mitigate many challenges faced by health systems worldwide. Consequently, maternal and child death cannot be solved by one or two professions, but it also needs collaboration from various other backgrounds.
