Abstract

There was increasing incidence of Leptospirosis at Puskesmas Kronjo from 4 cases in 2014 into 6 cases in October 2015 with CFR 50%. Pasilian Village was recorded as the village with the highest incidence rate, located beside the river which is one of risk factorsof Leptospirosis. This research aimed to increase citizens' knowledge about Leptospirosis disease. Quasi experimental design was used to assess the respondents’ level of knowledge by comparing the values between before and after health education, improving environmental health with rats-free-house (Rumah Bebas Tikus/RUBESKUS) and in house sanitation programs. Samples were collected by purposive nonrandom sampling. Data were analyzed using PairedT-Test. From total of 58 respondents participated, most of them were female, with total of 53 (91.4%). The result of statistical analysis showed a 20% increase in knowledge with a mean difference of 27.586 and p-value 0.0001. Through the RUBESKUS and sanitation program, 100% of respondents set up a mouse trap and could handle waste properly during an unscheduled inspection. It can be concluded that the interventions improved the knowledge and enviromental health. Thus, it is suggested that the education program should be continued, so that the efforts to decrease the incidence of Leptospirosis could be realized.
