Abstract

Over the last few years, the roles of non-state actors have been very effective in cultural diplomacy where these actors can formulate their non-related activities to align with national interests. This paper describes the role of Sesama Art Space, formed by Fundacja Pamoja in Poland, as an international non-state actor, which conducted their activities in Jeblog Village, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Based on data gathered from observations and depth interviews, the authors found that inter-transferred values through art projects in Sesama Art Space are encouraging local artists, communities and institutions to develop their understandings and activities in living as a global society. These activities hold particular value for international relations studies in understanding cultural diplomacy discourse. Critical cosmopolitan approach is used to re-conceptualize cultural diplomacy.
