Abstract

A web based remote Internetworking laboratory that delivers interactive laboratory experience to geographically remote graduate students is presented in this paper. The online Internetworking (INWK) laboratory learning environment employs remote interaction with networking equipment in both individual and group setting that correlates with the constructivist and collaborative pedagogical approaches. This paper discusses the pedagogical and technical factors that influence the usability of and instructional experience in the remote laboratory environment given the constraints of the special hardware and learning outcomes of the program. A survey instrument employing a 5 point scale has been devised to measure the usability and student instructional experience in the remote access INWK laboratory. These results demonstrate the success achieved in designing and implementing the remote access Internetworking laboratory.
