Quick Abstract

The Internet is a very powerful tool and become a major challenge to service providers with the amount and scale of products and services offered online. The rapid growth of Internet and IT/IS applications used in businesses has resulted to digitalization of trade finance. However, the trade finance Internet banking services is under-utilized despite availability. Service providers that had heavily invested in trade finance Internet banking services will be very much interested to know what are the determinants that can increase the system’s acceptance and utilization. The purpose of the study is to investigate the determinants that affect acceptance of trade finance Internet banking services. Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) are they key focus for this study as they are the catalyst and key contributors to national economies. This study will make contribution to banking literature by providing insights on the IT/IS acceptance. It will also help service providers to better justify their investments.

Quick Abstract

Disastrous situations, either naturally (such as fires, earthquake, rising tides, hurricane) or man-made (such as terrorist bombings, chemical spills, and so on), have claimed the lives of thousands. As such, optimizing the evacuation operations during an emergency situation would require an effective crowd evacuation plan, which is acknowledged to be one of the vital studies of the societal research as well as emergency route planning (ERP) community. Several descriptions of prior developed approaches for emergency evacuation that encompassed the needs of a variety of public community as well as fulfilling the complexity of the situation, are summed up and discussed. This paper introduces an immune algorithm (IA) to optimize the evacuation plan for solving the ERP problems. The approach is first validated against previous work while further experimentation reveals the effectiveness of the proposed IA, with regard to certain parameter calibrations, in the context of ERP problems. The findings have been summarized and presented, whereas the potential for future work is identified.

Quick Abstract

Research in two-player perfect information games have been one of the focus of computer-game related studies in the domain of artificial intelligence. However, focus on an effective search program is insufficient to give the “taste” of actual entertainment in the gaming industry. Instead of focusing on effective search algorithm, we dedicate our study in realizing the possibility of applying speculative play. However, quantifying and determining this possibility is the main challenge imposed in this study. For this purpose, the Conspiracy Number Search algorithm is considered where the maximum and minimum conspiracy numbers are recorded in the test bed of a simple Tic-Tac-Toe game application. We analyze these numbers as the measures of critical position identifier which determines the right moment for possibility of applying speculative play through operators formally defined in this article as ↑ tactic and ↓ tactic. Interesting results are obtained with convincing evidences but further works are still needed in order to prove our hypothesis.

Quick Abstract

The implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) initiatives is recognized by its highly complex situations and difficult to manage, involving a range of interrelated and overlapping components of technology, organization and people. The objective of the study is to demonstrate how the Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) approach can be applied to investigate the implementation of KMS initiatives in their natural setting. The study is carried out through four case studies within Malaysian Public Universities (MPUs) representing different characteristics of universities based on the year of their establishment. The findings reveal the process of KMS initiatives contains six different kinds of activity through the development of conceptual model. Furthermore, the analysis was conducted to identify factors influencing the activities within the proposed conceptual model. In this sense, the application of SSM recommends the advantage of a comprehensive analysis by integrating both the process and the factors influencing the implementation of KMS initiatives in the higher education context, especially in the MPUs.

Quick Abstract

3-D morphing, in its simplest definition, is shape transformation between a pair of objects i.e. source and target, by gradual, continuous and simultaneous dissolvement of the shape of source object to its target and vice versa resulting in a number of intermediate shapes. Many algorithms have been developed for this purpose with each one having its own speciality. In this paper, a novel algorithm is presented which is based on slices. The technique originates from the concept of reducing a 3-D object to a number of slices in 2D plane. In the algorithm, all of the 2D slices may not be oriented in either x, y, z or in a particular direction. Orientation and rotation of the slices within a single body can be varied from one slice to another based on the alignment of the object. Oriented Bounding Box (OBB) is used to determine the orientation of the object. The advantages of the proposed method i.e. minimal user input, flexibility, dynamism and ease of implementing over other 3D morphing algorithms are also discussed.

Quick Abstract

Various standards organizations have considered signaling for voice and video over IP from different approaches. There are currently more than one standard for signaling and control of Internet telephone calls. Some of them, which widely used are RSW control protocol and the IETF Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Both protocols provide comparable functionality using different mechanisms and provide similar quality of service. Although there are numerous industry debates about the merits of the two protocols, the truth is that both of them, along with other complementary protocols, are necessary to provide universal access and to support IP-based enhanced services. Both protocols have been widely deployed, so interworking between RSW and SIP is essential to ensure full end-to-end connectivity. Because of the inherent differences between RSW and SIP, accommodation must be made to allow interworking between the two protocols. The work reported in this paper proposes a communication translation protocol to bridge the RSW control protocol and SIP control protocol. This communication translation protocol has to provide a set of rules to enable communications between the RSW control criteria and SIP standards. The communication translation entity defined can be called translator server.
