Quick Abstract

Notion of neighbourhoods is critical in many applications such as social studies, cultural heritage management, urban planning or environment impact on health. Two main challenges deal with the definition and representation of this spatial concept and with the gathering of descriptive data on a large area (country). In this paper, we present a use case in the context of real estate search for representing French neighbourhoods in a uniform manner, using a few environment variables (e.g., building type, social class). Since it is not possible to manually classify all neighbourhoods, our objective is to automatically predict this new information.

Quick Abstract

The increasing power of computer hardware and the sophistication of computer software have brought many new possibilities to information world. On one side the possibility to analyse massive data sets has brought new insight, knowledge and information. On the other, it has enabled to massively distribute computing and has opened to a new programming paradigm called Service Oriented Computing particularly well adapted to cloud computing. Applying these new technologies to the transport industry can bring new understanding to town transport infrastructures. The objective of our work is to manage and aggregate cloud services for managing big data and assist decision making for transport systems. Thus this paper presents our approach for developing data storage, data cleaning and data integration services to make an efficient decision support system. Our services will implement algorithms and strategies that consume storage and computing resources of the cloud. For this reason, appropriate consumption models will guide their use. Proposing big data management strategies for data produced by transport infrastructures, whilst maintaining cost effective systems deployed on the cloud, is a promising approach.

Quick Abstract

Taking advantage of the agility and interoperability provided by Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web 2.0 and XaaS (Anything as a Service) technologies, more and more collaborative Business Processes (BP) are set ”on demand” by selecting, composing and orchestrating different business services depending on the current need. This involves re-thinking the way information, services and applications are organized, deployed, shared and secured among multi-cloud environment. Fitting this de-perimeterized and evolving execution context requires organising the service protection in a dynamic way in order to provide an up to date and consistent protection. To fit this goal, we propose to integrate the different protection requirements defined according to the business environment in a single security policy. Then we plug a context-aware security deployment architecture on the cloud service middleware to analyse both the security policy and the execution context to select, compose and orchestrate the convenient protection means. A proof of concept built on Frascati middleware is used to evaluate the impact of this ”on-line” security mediation.

Quick Abstract

Cloud-based services have become a norm for business application development. With Cloud Computing and the convergence toward Everything as a Service (XaaS), we no longer consider the classical context of application development, where IT teams or integrators are solicited. Current approaches in Cloud environments are usually designed for a specific Cloud platform; moreover, they are only designed for technical users. To overcome the lack of generic and complete methodology for business application development, we propose a methodology for Automatic Software Development as a Service (ASDaaS), which is designed for non-technical users and promotes services reuse. In this paper, we focus on the phase of business software requirement gathering of our methodology. We define the requirement vocabulary based on linked data principles, and extend the Linked-USDL language to describe business stakeholder requirements as service functions, business constraints, user preferences and QoS parameters. Our approach is illustrated with an e-commerce example.

Quick Abstract

The Web 2.0 and the inexpensive cost of storage have pushed towards an exponential growth in the volume of collected and produced data. However, the integration of distributed and heterogeneous data sources has become the bottleneck for many applications, and it therefore still largely relies on manual tasks. One of this task, named matching or alignment, is the discovery of correspondences, i.e., semantically-equivalent elements in different data sources. Most approaches which attempt to solve this challenge face the issue of deciding whether a pair of elements is a correspondence or not, given the similarity value(s) computed for this pair. In this paper, we propose a generic and flexible framework for selecting the correspondences by relying on the discriminative similarity values for a pair. Running experiments on a public dataset has demonstrated the improvment in terms of quality and the robustness for adding new similarity measures without user intervention for tuning.

Quick Abstract

The observation and analysis of the activity of learners in computerized environments training is a major issue, particularly in the context of professional training on nuclear power plant full-scope simulator. In such a context, the role of the trainers is critic and require constant alertness throughout the simulation especially for the young trainers. The objective of our work is to propose an approach to facilitate the observation and analysis of the trainees’ activities. This approach is based on interaction traces. It consists in representing the operators’ actions and the simulation data in the form of modelled traces. These modelled traces are transformed in order to extract higher informations levels on the behaviour of trainees. Trainers can visualize the different levels to analyse the reasons, of successes or failure of trainees. This approach has been implemented in a prototype, called D3KODE, allowing the representation, processing and visualization of traces. D3KODE was evaluate according to a comparative protocol conducted with a team of trainers from EDF Group.

Quick Abstract

This paper proposes a qualitative approach for identifying learners’ engagement from their traces of interactions performed in the learning game. Learners’ engagement is an effective indicator of their motivation, acceptance and attachment to the learning activity. Engagement also informs about the relevance of the content and the effectiveness of the proposed interactive learning game. Designers, practitioners and teachers need information about engagement for analysing, designing and validating the learning game and also for modifying and adapting learning games in order to maintain their effectiveness. Currently, most of the approaches provide quantitative information about learner’s engaged-behaviours. Thus, our objective is to extract qualitative information from learners-generated data. In this paper, we propose an approach in three stages that combines theoretical works on engagement and engaged-behaviours, Activity Theory and Trace Theory. By relying on traces of interactions, this approach enables to identify engaged-behaviours in low-constraint interactive games, directly, continuously, under ecological conditions and over a long time period. Then we present the results of a user study that demonstrate the feasibility and the validity of our approach. This study has been conducted on twelve traces composed of several thousands of learner-generated data.

Quick Abstract

A variant of the Perona-Malik anisotropic diffusion equation is introduced for the segmentation of multiple objects with crossings. The diffusion is automatically applied at the crossings locations along the main orientations of the objects. Application of this process is given for illustration on an original problem of plant imaging with the monitoring of the elongation of multiple crossing seedlings.

Quick Abstract

This paper presents TStore, a Trace-Base Management System (TBMS) handling storage, transformation and exploitation of traces collected by external applications. As the experiments reported in this paper demonstrate, TStore brings a solution to performances and storage issues usually encountered by TBMS. To exploit traces, transformations are used. TStore provides predefined transformation functions as well as a customized transformation based on Finite State Transducers (FST), which are also presented in this paper.

Quick Abstract

This work consists in simulating a real time interbank gross payment system (RTGS) through a multi-agent model, to analyze the evolution of the liquidity brought by the banks to the system. In this model, each bank chooses the amount of a daily liquidity provided in the system on the basis of costs minimization (costs of liquidity and delaying) by taking into account the liquidity brought by the other banks. Banks agents reasoning is based on a repeated aggregate game of over several payment days where each bank plays against the other banks. For adaptive behaviour we integrate into bank agents a learning classifier system. We carry out then several simulations to follow the system total liquidity evolution as that of each bank agent with varying costs coefficients. The question to be answered is: what are the cash amounts that banks must provide and under what constraints (costs of liquidity and delaying) the system beyond the lack of liquidity (illiquidity)? We find that liquidity evolution depends on costs coefficients.
