Abstract

Using the data from the Rural Urban Migration in China 2008, we estimate the relationship and m echanism between the remittance and subjective well-being of the rural - urban migrants in China. And we get some conclusions after robustness tests and use work months of the year as the instru mental variable to deal with the possible endogenous bias. Our results show that remittances and the subjective well-being of the immigrants has a weak but significant and negative relationship and the marginal effect of remittance on happiness is higher than the marginal utility of revenue, even if the effect of per capita remittances and the relative remittances is eliminated.
