Abstract

IEEE 802.16 standard is designed to provide services to various types of multimedia applications. It supports real-time and non-real-time service classes. With such a large volume of traffic, a new strategy needed to be developed for the non-real-time service class, since there have been limited studies in this area. In this paper, a new queue length based scheduling strategy for the non-real-time service class is proposed. The proposed algorithm is developed on the basis of virtual queue’s and counter scheme’s, aiming at ensuring minimum bandwidth for non-real-time applications.
