Abstract

The behaviour of wireless networks in the presence of error conditions is still being studied by the research community. Improvements on the evaluation methods and tools are crucial to acquire a better knowledge, and understanding of the network operation under such conditions. This paper presents enhancements on the network simulator NS-2 to support the evaluation of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, used as a case study. We are specially interested to evaluate the temporal behaviour of the network operation under errors conditions, considering the applicability of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard in safety-critical environments such as industrial and vehicular.
