Abstract

This paper is an analysis of cases of university professors’ incorporation of information and communication technology (ICT) in their instruction in terms of their expression of their pedagogical, technological and content knowledge. Our analysis is based on semi-structured interviews with nine professors who used a web-based authoring tool to build virtual learning environments (VLEs) to support their classroom courses. Results show that the manner in which professors incorporate ICT in their classrooms is expressed in terms of the specifics of the field of Health and Science education, with regards to the nature of both teaching content and teaching strategy. Thus, much focus was given to the use of resources that enabled visualization of abstract phenomena, the use of primary sources of information, the development of new ways to carry out practical activities, and communication tools that broadened the space for solving cases and problems.
