Foreword: This book includes the papers accepted for presentation at the 11th International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods (ICPRAM 2022, 3– 5 February, 2022). The conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and is endorsed by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). ICPRAM 2022 is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and organized in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (ACM SIGAI), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), International Neural Network Society (INNS), the Associação Portuguesa de Reconhecimento de Padrões (APRP), the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), and the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA). The first edition of ICPRAM was held in 2012, and since then the conference has become an annual meeting aimed at being a major point of contact between researchers, engineers and practitioners on the areas of Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning. Both theoretical and application perspectives are covered, as well as most of their powerful interaction. The aim is to provide a common forum, where conference attendees can meet and exchange ideas for their future research activity, and possibly establish new collaborations. This is the second time that ICPRAM has been held as a web-based event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ICPRAM 2022 received 107 submissions from 33 countries. Each contribution has been peer reviewed by at least 2 highly qualified reviewers. At the end of the reviewing process, 26 submissions were selected for oral presentation as full papers, 35 submissions for oral presentation as short papers, and 27 submissions for poster presentation. The obtained Technical Program includes a noticeable variety of topics, and we hope that conference attendees will appreciate it. Four awards will be assigned during the conference to acknowledge the value of the best contributions presented at ICPRAM 2022: the Best Scientific Paper Award, the Best Student Paper Award, the Best Industrial Paper Award and the Best Poster Presentation Award. The papers nominated for the first three awards are selected ICPRAM 2022 full papers. The winning papers will be chosen among them by the Program/Conference Chairs based on the combination of two elements: the best combined review marks, assessed by the Program Committee, and the paper presentation quality, assessed by Session Chairs and Program Chairs at the conference venue. The Best Poster Presentation Award will be given to the most appealing poster. Besides the accepted contributions, the conference program also includes four invited talks by internationally distinguished speakers, namely: Mihaela van der Schaar (John Humphrey Plummer Professor of Machine Learning, AI, and Medicine, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom), Krystian Mikolajczyk (Imperial College London, United Kingdom), Tinne Tuytelaars (KU Leuven, Belgium), and Nicu Sebe (University of Trento, Italy). Finally, we take the opportunity to thank the authors, the Local Chair Walter G. Kropatsch, all the members of the Program Committee and the additional reviewers, the invited speakers and all members of the INSTICC team whose collaboration has been fundamental for the success of this conference. We hope to meet you again next year for the 12th edition of ICPRAM, details of which will soon be available at the conference website. (More)
