Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science (CLOSER 2011) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and in cooperation with the Special Interest Group of the ACM on Management Information Systems (ACM SIGMIS), EuroCloud and The Interdisciplinary Institute for Collaboration and Research on Enterprise Systems and Technology (IICREST). We expect the technical program, that approaches areas like “Cloud Computing Fundamentals”, “Services Science Foundation for Cloud Computing”, “Cloud Computing Platforms and Applications” or “Cloud Computing Enabling Technology”, to appeal to a global audience of engineers, scientists, and business people interested in the research topics of CLOSER. We believe the proceedings here published demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging technical problems in each field. CLOSER 2011 received 164 paper submissions from all continents. From these, 18 papers were published and presented as full papers, 48 were accepted for short presentation and another 22 for poster presentation. These numbers, leading to a full-paper acceptance ratio of 11% and an oral paper acceptance ratio of 40%, shows the intention of preserving a high quality forum for the next editions of this conference. Moreover, the conference also featured a number of keynote lectures delivered by internationally well known experts thus contributing to increase the overall quality of the conference and to provide a deeper understanding of the conference interest fields. The high number and high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices in the review process. Each paper was sent to at least two reviewers. From these reviews, those papers that were adequately balanced in terms of quality, originality, and relevance to the conference themes were selected. We hope that these Conference Proceedings, submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC, DBLP and EI, may help the Cloud Computing community to find interesting research work. All presented papers will soon be available at the SciTePress digital library. Furthermore, a short list of presented papers will be selected to be expanded into a forthcoming book of CLOSER Selected Papers to be published by Springer during 2011. The conference is complemented with three special sessions, focusing on specialized aspects of could computing and services science; namely, Special Session on Multi-Agent Systems (MAS 2011), Special Session on Information and Data Quality (IDQ 2011) and Special Session on Business Systems and Aligned IT Services (BITS 2011). Finally, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication make possible to put together a program that we believe very exciting and of high technical quality. Next, we would like to thank all the members of the program committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for sharing their vision in their talks. Special thanks should be addressed to the INSTICC Steering Committee whose invaluable work made this event possible. We wish you all an exciting conference and an unforgettable stay in the beautiful Noordwijk area in The Netherlands. We hope to meet you again for the next edition of CLOSER conference details of which will be shortly available at http://www.closer.scitevents.org. (More)
