Foreword: Welcome to NLUCS 2005, the 2nd International Workshop on Natural Language Understanding and Cognitive Science, held on 24 May 2005 in Miami, USA. This workshop was organised in conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2005). The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for academic and industrial researchers in natural language understanding and Cognitive Science to share in their results and experience. This year’s keynote speaker was Dr Srini Narayanan of the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), Berkeley CA, whose presentation is entitled “Computational Cognitive Semantics“. Of the 30 papers received, 13 were selected as full papers for oral presentation, and 7 were accepted for poster presentation. Each paper was reviewed by at least two members of the programme committee who provided critical evaluations and suggestions for improvements.
