Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART 2014). Co-organized by the ESEO Group, this conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) in cooperation with the ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (ACM Sigart), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA). ICAART is also technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society. The purpose of the International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the theory and applications in the areas of Agents and Artificial Intelligence. Two simultaneous related tracks will be held, covering both applications and current research work. In the area of Agents, Multi-Agent Systems and Software Platforms, Distributed Problem Solving and Distributed AI in general, including web applications are concerned. In the area of artificial intelligence, Knowledge Representation, Planning, Learning, Scheduling, Perception Reactive AI Systems, Evolutionary Computing and other topics related to intelligent systems and Computational Intelligence are concerned. ICAART received 225 paper submissions from 48 countries, which demonstrates the success and global dimension of this conference. From these, 33 papers were published as full papers, 50 were accepted for short presentation and another 49 for poster presentation. These numbers, leading to a “full-paper” acceptance ratio of about 15% and an oral paper acceptance ratio close to 37%, show the intention of preserving a high quality forum for the next editions of this conference. The conference program includes a panel and six invited talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers, namely: Philippe Leray (Université de Nantes, France), Henry Lieberman (MIT Media Laboratory, United States), Matthias Klusch (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) GmbH, Germany), Claude Frasson (University of Montreal, Canada), Pieter Spronck (Tilburg University, Netherlands) and Marc-Philippe Huget (University of Savoie, France). The ICAART program also includes a Doctoral Consortium on Agents and Artificial Intelligence that brought together Ph.D. students within the agents and artificial intelligence field to discuss their research in an international forum. We would like to thank the Doctoral Consortium Chair, Florence Bannay, for her collaboration in providing this added-value to ICAART. As in previous editions of the Conference, based on the reviewers’ evaluations and on the quality of presentations, a short list of authors will be selected and invited to submit extended revised versions of their papers for a book that will be published by Springer, in the LNAI Series, with the best papers of ICAART 2014. A few papers will also be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of Springer's LNCS TCCI Journal. To recognize the best submissions and the best student contributions, awards based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as assessed by session chairs at the conference venue, were conferred at the closing session of the conference. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. Next, we thank all the members of the program committee and the auxiliary reviewers for their diligence and expert reviewing. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Fourthly, we thank the ICAART Program Co-chairs, Béatrice Duval and Jaap van den Herik, whose collaboration was much appreciated. Finally, special thanks to all the members of the INSTICC team whose collaboration was fundamental for the success of this conference. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in Angers, Loire Valley, France. We hope to meet you again next year for the 7th ICAART, details of which will soon be available at http://www.icaart.org. (More)
