Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems (PECCS 2012) which was organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). PECCS 2012 is sponsored by INSTICC (the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication) and held in cooperation with IEICE (the Japanese Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers), SWIM (Technical Group on Software Interprise Modeling) and Euromicro. The Conference Program includes oral presentations (full papers and short papers) and posters, organized in three simultaneous tracks: “Mobile and Pervasive Computing”, “Digital Signal Processing” and “Embedded Systems Design”. We are proud to inform that the program includes also four plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely – Jay Lee (University of Cincinnati, U.S.A.), Kin K. Leung (Imperial College, U.K.), Juan Carlos Augusto (University of Ulster at Jordanstown, U.K.), Joseph Sifakis (Verimag, France) and Pedro José Marrón (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany). PECCS received 132 paper submissions from more than 40 countries, in all continents. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in PECCS topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, only 51 papers were selected for oral presentation 17 full papers and 34 short papers) and 15 papers were selected for poster presentation. The full paper acceptance ratio was 13%, and the total oral acceptance ratio (including full papers and short papers) 39%. These strict acceptance ratios show the intention to preserve a high quality forum which we expect to develop further next year. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library. A post-conference Special Issue of the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing is planned for publication of an extended version of a restricted number of original high quality papers presented during PECCS 2012. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library. Conferences are also meeting places where collaboration projects can emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. Therefore, in order to promote the development of research and professional networks the Conference includes in its social program a Conference Social Event & Banquet in the evening of February 25th. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in the lovely city of Rome, Italy. We hope to meet you again next year for the 3rd PECCS, details of which will soon be available at http://www.peccs.org. (More)
