Foreword:
This book contains the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Model-Driven Engineering and Software Development (MODELSWARD 2014) which was organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). MODELSWARD 2014 is sponsored by INSTICC (the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication) and held in cooperation with ACM SIGMIS - ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems, ARTEMIS Project MBAT, MDE Expertise Project, The Open Group - SOA Work Group and technically co-sponsored by the AIS Special Interest Group on Modeling and Simulation (AIS SIGMAS). The Conference Program includes oral presentations (full papers and short papers) and posters, organized in six technical sessions. We are proud to inform that the program includes also five plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely – Philippe Desfray (SOFTEAM, France), Colin
Atkinson (University of Mannheim, Germany), Silvia Abrahão, (Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain), Kim G. Larsen (Aalborg University, Denmark) and Andreas Holzinger (Medical University Graz, Austria). The conference includes also several thematic sessions organized by specialized researchers: Model-based Analysis and Testing of Embedded Systems (MBAT); Model-Driven Service Engineering: New Paradigms for Services Development in the Manufacturing Domain (MDSE) and a Doctoral Consortium. MODELSWARD received 101 paper submissions from 31 countries, in all continents. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in MODELSWARD topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, in the conference only 45 papers were selected for oral presentation (15 full papers and 30 short papers) and 20 papers were selected for poster presentation. The full paper acceptance ratio was 17%, and the total oral acceptance ratio (including full papers and short papers) 51%. These strict acceptance ratios show the intention to preserve the high quality of this event, which we expect to improve even further in the years to come. A short list of papers presented at the congress will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in the CCIS Series book by Springer-Verlag and in the Science of Computer Programming Journal by Elsevier. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library. Conferences are also meeting places where collaboration projects can emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. Therefore, in order to promote the development of research and professional networks the conference includes in its social program a Conference Social Event & Banquet in the evening of January 8, 2014. We would like to express our thanks to all the people who contributed to MODELSWARD 2014. First of all to the authors, whose quality work has been essential for this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in the lovely city of Lisbon, Portugal. We hope to meet you again next year for MODELSWARD 2015, details of which will soon be available at http://www.modelsward.org.
