Foreword:
This book contains the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems (ICORES 2015). This conference is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and technically co-sponsored by the Portuguese Association of Operational Research (Apdio). The purpose of the International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the advances and applications in the field of operations research. Two simultaneous tracks will be held, covering on one side domain independent methodologies and technologies and on the other side practical work developed in specific application areas. ICORES received 89 paper submissions from 38 countries, which demonstrates the global dimension of this conference. From these, 19 papers were published as full papers, 19 were accepted for short presentation and another 15
for poster presentation. These numbers, leading to a “full-paper” acceptance ratio of about 21% and an oral paper acceptance ratio close to 43%, show the intention of preserving a high quality forum for the next editions of this conference. To recognize the best submissions and the best student contributions, awards based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as assessed by session chairs at the conference venue, were conferred at the closing session of the conference. Based on the reviewers’ evaluations and on the quality of presentations, a short list of authors will be selected and invited to submit extended revised versions of their papers for a book that will be published by Springer with the best papers of ICORES 2015. The conference program includes a panel and four invited talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers, namely: Francisco Ruiz, (University of Málaga, Spain), Marc Demange (School of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences, RMIT University, Australia), Marino Widmer (University of Fribourg, Switzerland) and Bernard Ries (Université Paris-Dauphine, France). The ICORES program also includes a Doctoral Consortium on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems that brought together Ph.D. students within the operations research field to discuss their research in an international forum. We would like to thank the Doctoral Consortium Chair, José Manuel V. Valério de Carvalho, for his collaboration in providing this added-value to ICORES. This year’s program also includes Tutorials, hence we would also like to thank Asvin Goel for lecturing the Tutorial “Route Optimization and Road Safety”. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference; secondly to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, special thanks to all the members of the INSTICC team whose collaboration was fundamental for the success of this conference. We wish you all an inspiring conference and an unforgettable stay in Lisbon, Portugal. We hope to meet you again next year for the 5th edition of ICORES, details of which will soon be available at http://www.icores.org.
