Abstract:
Although affirmative action and gender mainstreaming in politics have been implemented in Indonesia, women’s political participation is still not more than 30%. This article discusses: (1) the level of political literacy of female cadres, (2) factors influencing the political literacy of female cadres; and (3) the necessary policy to improve political literacy of female cadres in the era of online media. This research was conducted in Surakarta City and Karanganyar Regency. The data were obtained from surveys, focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The informants comprised public figures, voter representatives, NGO’s activists, political party caretakers and parliament members. Data analysis was conducted using mixed-methods. The results indicate that the level of political literacy of female cadres is quite high. It is recommended that female political-literacy cadres should be provided online-based political education to substantially improve their
level of political participation.
